BACKEND STORY OF WHAT HAPPENED TODAY IN ABSU AND ITS ENVIRONS…

Earlier today as at 8 am, the Villagers of Uturu Community and nearby communities organized a protest following there displeasure of the recent Kidnapping and killing of passengers along Okigwe-Uturu Road…

The protesters lamented the inaction of the two state governments and security agencies towards the kidnapping and killing of students, lecturers of Abia State University, Uturu, members of the communities and travellers…

The Protest was going on peacefully as the front of ABSU Gate, Uturu Road and also Junction connecting ABSU and Uturu Road were all being barricaded with Sticks, Tables and planks…

The protest started from Ukwunwangwu, near Marist Brothers (Catholic) Secondary School, Uturu up to Okigwe junction of the Umuahia-Enugu Expressway…

MORE EXPLANATION:

The Protest started from the Uturu community as Youths marched out towards the front Gate of ABSU, crossed the Army Checkpoint of the 143 Battalion and headed towards Ihube Junction…

Around 10:30 am, about two Army Hilux Vehicles coming from the Isuikwuato Road stopped by the University Gate and removed all the sticks and planks used to block the road, thereby allowing free flow of movement…

Meanwhile, the Youths also entered the bushes in Ihube Junction which was said to be the “head office” of the kidnappers, thereby cutting trees and other shrubs…

After which it was said that they Allegedly reached Okigwe and were also joined by some Okigwe Youths…

Before the headed back towards the ABSU Community…

DID THEY ENTER ABSU, WHAT OCCURED?

As they headed back towards ABSU Community, they stopped at the Army Checkpoint and destroyed all the drums of sand usually used by the Nigerian Army to Barricade the Road…
They also Set tires on fire on the road…

Before they headed towards the University Premises, made there way towards the Senate in search of the Vice-Chancellor so as to tell him there displeasure about the Kidnappings…

On getting there, the noticed the Vice-Chancellor didn’t resume for work…

Reports we could gather from our correspondent had it that some Youths left the main aim of the protest and went for the Nigerian flag…

They took the flag down and headed towards the Army Checkpoint where the tires were burning to burn the flag right in front of the Army…

The Army as a National Property of the Federal Government had to react by storming the premises of the University Community and also headed towards the Senate Building to chase the Protesters…

On getting there, the protesters were almost destroying properties as they also rough handled the statue in the Senate Building thereby removing the head of the statue…
The army tried chasing the protesters away by shooting into the air so as to disperse the angry protesters…

Everyone around that axis had to ran away in fear and shock including the protesters and students around that area…
There wasn’t any casualties or harm to any student or protesters…

The Battalion Commander had to speak to the Army Officials that were involved in that act and sat them on the floor and warned them against such act of shooting into the air in a University Community where Students are in…

After that, the Army also had to patrol in the University Community and the Uturu Community to ensure that there wasn’t a breakdown of law and order…

Also, the ABSU Vice-Chancellor had asked the Students to Vacate the Campus for Midterm Break From Friday 20th May Till Further Notice…
Also asked Students to Vacate the Hostels following this notice…

  1. This report is not entirely true. Someone, a bus driver was hit by the military bullet. In front of the school gate

    1. But t me the VC asking the students to leave is not a better option since they are making use of that same road
