OAU Disclaimer Notice | Beware of Fraudsters

The attention of the Management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has been drawn to the nefarious activities of a scamming syndicate and impostors on Facebook who set out to defraud the unsuspecting members of the public by promising admission placements, job opportunities, award of contracts and other benefits to teeming seekers at a fee, using the name of the Vice-Chancellor of the University.

In view of this ugly development, members of the public should note that businesses of a reputable University like ours are never conducted on any platform of social media.

In fact, the Management sees it as criminal, uncanny and improper for anybody or a group of persons to align with or transact business of the University with faceless and unidentified individuals who are not officers or designated staff of the University.

The University, therefore, dissociates itself completely from these miscreants who by their actions wish to bring its image to disrepute.

We, therefore, want to assure the general public that effort is on to identify and bring the criminal(s) to justice.

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) is a federal government-owned university that is located in the ancient city of Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. The university was founded in 1961 and classes commenced in October 1962 as the “University of Ife” by the regional government of Western Nigeria, which was led by Samuel Ladoke Akintola, and was renamed “Obafemi Awolowo University” on 12 May 1987 in honour of Obafemi Awolowo (1909–1987), the first premier of the Western Region of Nigeria, whose idea the university was
