
113 ABSU New Medical Doctors take Oath at Induction
No fewer than 113 fresh doctors took professional oath at the Abia State University (ABSU), Uturu during its 29th induction/swearing-in ceremony of graduating medical doctors of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences (ACMHS) recently.
A total of 113 (One Hundred and Thirteen) new Medical Doctors of Abia state University, Uturu (ABSU) have been inducted into the medical profession to boast the fledging health sector in Nigeria.
Speaking during the 29th batch Induction/ Swearing in ceremony of graduating Medical Doctors at the University auditorium, the Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Onyemachi M. Ogbulu, described the Induction ceremony as a very special one, that also celebrates the Governing authorities of the University for recovering the full NUC accreditation for Medicine and Surgery within few months after accreditation was denied in the November/December 2020/21 accreditation exercise.
He reassured that the University will continue to produce quality medical graduates of global standard and thanked the Governor and Visitor to the University, Okezie Victor Ikpeazu PhD, for his unprecedented support in the restoration of accreditation for Medicine and Surgery programme of the University.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, “God is crowning the efforts of the administration with success in every area,” and called on parents and guardians, to be ready to make more sacrifices that will be required of them soon, in order to maintain the quality and standard of Medical Doctors produced by the University.\
In his address, the registrar, Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), Dr. T. A. B. Sanusi commended the Abia State University for being one of the best Institutions in the training of Medical Doctors in Nigeria.
The Induction ceremony Dr Sanuai said, is a call for service and appealed to the public to cooperate and support the Medical College of the University, because running a Medical School he said, is not a tea party and requires huge investment in funding and human resources.
He stated that the Council will continue to uphold the standard of the profession and informed the new Doctors, that their first call is to save lives and be compassionate in the delivery of quality health care service to their patients.
Also speaking, the Provost of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Professor S. N. Onwere, thanked the Vice-Chancellor, Distinguished Professor Onyemachi M. Ogbulu and the Registrar Dr T. A. B. Sanusi for making the event a success and charged the graduands to be guided by the ethics of the Profession in the discharge of their duties.
In a vote of thanks, the Deputy Provost of the College, Professor B. O. Ekpo, commended the Vice-Chancellor for writing his name in the book of contemporary history of the University through his achievements and congratulated the new Medical Doctors for their success, adding that “All things bright and beautiful, the Lord made them all.”
Highlight of the Induction ceremony was the administration of the Physicians Oath on the new Medical Doctors.
Other Principal Officers of the University and academics from the College as well as the first Emeritus Professor and Pioneer provost of the College of Medicine and health sciences of the University, Professor Frank Akpuaka was in attendance at the event.
